The Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), has announced changes in its operation strategy targeted that increasing its contribution to the nation’s agricultural transformation programme.
This decision would see the agricultural specialist company come up with new operational plans that help it provide more insurance cover for agricultural projects, expansion into new areas and an all-inclusive risk management for the country’s evolving agricultural sector.
Chioma Ohakim, organisation’s board chairman, who disclosed this during the Board/Management retreat of the organisation in Calabar said the Management has been given the go ahead to start implementation work towards ensuring excellent service delivery in the area of new product development such as weather index insurance, business re-engineering, ICT project, improved brand communication, prompt claim settlement, provision of Micro Insurance to small scale farmers, enhanced staff welfare and Training as well as strategic performance measurement in view of the recent commercialisation of the Corporation’s activities.
In her address titled ‘Better late than Never’ Ohakim observed that it has been the desire of the Board of Directors of the Corporation, immediately after inauguration, to review the Corporation’s Vision and mission with a view to fashioning out appropriate strategy in response to NAIC operational environment and challenges towards taking the Corporation to the next business level.
The overall aim of the retreat, according to Ohakim, was to create synergy between the Board of Directors of the Corporation and its Management, led by Bode Opadokun, with a view to drive the new vision that would ensure that the Corporation effectively and efficiently contribute its quota to the Agricultural Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government.
The above stated aim was apparent in the number of high quality working papers delivered at the retreat which centred on strategies and business development, organisational structure, creation of multilateral working relationships with local and foreign partners, environmental impact assessment as well as SWOT analysis.
The Board in courtesy to Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, extolled the tourism and agricultural potentials of the State and the leadership acumen of the Governor. Ohakim reminded the people of the State of the benefits of taking an insurance policy with the Corporation which include payment of premium at subsidised rate and prompt settlement of genuine claims.
She further extolled the loyalty of the people of Cross River State for their past patronage, especially in the past five years, which enabled the Corporation to give adequate insurance cover to over N2.7 billion worth of their agro-investments.
