The Nigerian Football Federation are reportedly planning on appointing a European coach to take over the Super Eagles reins from Stephen Keshi.
The NFF are currently scouring the globe for a new head tactician after Keshi failed to lead the defending Africa Cup of Nations to qualification for the 2015 showpiece in Equatorial Guinea.
Initial reports suggested the Nigerian football governing body would look to bring in a local mentor, although that idea has seemingly been discarded, with a foreign coach set to be named shortly.
A NFF official, speaking on request of anonymity, is quoted as saying by the Daily Trust: “We are still waiting to clear the Keshi issue that’s why we are hesitant to go public with our next line of action for the team but it has been agreed that we need a technically sound European coach to handle the team. We can’t run away from the fact that they are still the best in football.”
The NFF are, however, determined to bring local coaches up to speed with the rest of the world, and are looking to invest in the future of domestic tacticians.
“There are also plans for our local coaches to travel abroad for technical courses and hopefully in the next few years, we’ll have world class managers of our own teams.”
